Was driving along today when I noticed that vibration was causing the glovebox to rattle loudly. My instant reaction was to blame the slackness of the glovebox fastner but as I drove on I became aware that the vibration was excessive and not something that normally happens. I noticed that it becomes most ovbious at around 25mph through to about 35mph , at 40mph its barely noticable but around 50mph it's back, tho perhaps not as badly as at 20-30mph.

Anyone know what might be causing this and how much it's gonna cost to put right?

At a guess I'd say its coming more from the front than the back but its really hard to tell as the whole car shakes and anything thats loose rattles whether it be front or back!

Last time I got a new tyre I had all four wheels balanced (November 09) and I was told that some were miles off what they should have been. When it was done there was a noticable reduction in noise/vibration, however the vibration that i'm experiencing now is far worse than it was before I got the tyres balanced last year. Did a quick visual inspection of the tyres, all look 'ok' and each one has at least one balancing weight, ovbs I cant tell by looking if there were more to begin with or if theyve moved but its not like one tyre has lost all its balancing weights or something like that!

Is it likley to be the wheel bearings at fault?

if it is the uj's the rear creates a really bad vibe when it goes (because of the size and weight of the prop)and the front can make your teeth rattle too get it checked out some one i knew left it too long the uj near the transfer box sheared off the prop dropped down dug into the ground and he flipped his disco all ok but worth keeping an eye on things down there(ok this is a case of severe neglect/incompetance but it happens)

Sounds, like maybe check wheel bearings and front prop uj's. Other than that check out, machanic questions for Landrovers . Unless other folks on forum have any further idea's to help with the problem. Cheers.

I think I can tel you! just had this problem thought it was the clutch, so up on the ramp gear box out, but as I came to take all the bell housing bolts out, some was missing others was loose, put a new 3 peace clutch in as well as a new flywheel & a flywheel housing as mine had a peace missing, the old clutch was allmost new, BUT I did notice wear on the spigot bush, so what was happening was the gearbox moving putting presher on the spigot bush, this got slowly worse over a few weeks. so check ALL bell housing bolts. ( and i mean all reseat with locktigh) PS the top ones are a bitch.

Hi, i had this on my 300tdi, it was the UJs on the front prop shaft, i got the joints of ebay for about 20 pound for 2 and did them myself, not to hard, just remeber to mark everything before you take it off as it has to go back in the same location as i was advised they are balanced.
