300tdi-engine cutting out.

for the past couple of months my 110 300tdi has been cutting out whilst being driven as if key has been removed or run out of diesel-after pulling over engine immediately starts carries on as if nothing has happend-changed fuel filter got fuel from diferent garage air filter looks ok-any ideas?-also about 3 months before this occured tank ran dry but no problem when refilled and filter bled, owned since new-1996-120,000 miles.

diesel cut off solenoid mate. They usually stick open but they can cut off randomly. Look it up in your haynes manual.
