Hi, i am new to these forum things, but i have years of experience on blinking land rovers, i wanted to share my findings on a recent motor with you all so people of the future can be helped.

I was working on a 300tdi EDC that would not start without easy start and basically rank like a bag of knackers

After the previous people had looked at it and prodded and poked it landed on my door step, after i put what other people had stripped of back on and got it going with the help of a bit of sniff, it was immediately apparent that the timing was a issue after spending 10 mins doing the timing adjustment thing got it sorted but it didn't seam right some how, the EDC diag was saying various faults and i didn't believe it !

So i set to and whipped the timing case off low and behold the plastic guid fitted to the adjuster wheel was smashed and the belt had gone slack

Just thought i would let people know as i have read a bit about edc Problems and i know that they are pretty robust to be honest the EDC sys is very clunky and hard wearing but the one thing it relies on is its timing to be spot on otherwise this will throw up no end of faults.;)

You are correct, the EDC is very robust. The pump relies heavily on a centered timing cog to allow the solenoid to adjust timing + or -. If the timing is not correct then the pump lacks the range of adjustment needed one direction and therefore cant produce power and economy. Diesels are very forgiving when it comes to timing and fueling, but any symptoms tend to show up as lackluster getup and go or low mpg.
