My 12 plate Mondeo put an engine management fault up the other day. I put a post in AG about OBDII readers cos my reader wasn't picking anything up. Anyway, got the AA out and he stuck his super computer on it.DF was up to 126% on the soot reading. The computer forced it to go through a regeneration and then he took it up the road for a further blast which got the reading down to 27% He was very happy as he was expecting to get it in the 30% to 50% range. Also the upstream and EGT sensor was bob on again and so was the pressure drop across the DPF. Anyhow, I took it for a spin and it was noticeable smoother and pulling better.
Last night I got to thinking about the DPF on the Landy

There are no sensors on this thing to trigger a regeneration  No valve to inject fuel to get it up to 650 degrees
Do they burn stuff off on long runs? Is it slowly clogging up and slowing my slow Landy down to even more slowly? Since the engine rebuild I've been burning a canny bit of oil, so I suspect it won't be nice and shiny in there. Are these a disposable item or do they somehow regenerate?
EDIT
It's called a CAT in the listings!

Aye, I'm keeping mine. :) The inside of that DPF might be going the journey though ;)
New MOT rules check for DPF tampering now, wonder if you can ram a hole through them with a rod so not to have a visible cut and weld.

have the newest Landy's got a DPF or are you looking at the CAT

Earlier this morning I read that the new regs largely applied to 2008+ vehicles. Might have been a pants article, I'll try to find it again.

Only Pumas have DPFs the rest have CATs if actually fitted. Some 300s/TD5s never had one
Just reading about them: :)
Yes, diesel engines do have catalytic converters. The most commonly present catalytic converter is Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC). The catalyst used oxygen in the exhaust gas stream to convert carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide and the hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water.
There we go :)

I think someone is thoroughly confused here.

300TDi's (which is what the thread is titled) were never fitted with a DPF, some were fitted with a CAT but that is a different animal altogether and does not need to go through a cleaning cycle like a DPF.

Aye, worked that out this morning. You just woke up :p

Pumas have a CAT, and most also have a DPF (depending on the country of use), CAT does wot A1203 said and the DPF collects soot particles which are burned off periodically during a raised temperature regeneration.

Google DOC CAT

Edit, ignore me, Ive just noticed someone else posted the answer eventaully

Cheers, lynall. Yeah, I answered it myself in the end. That was my post. Should have Googled it before posting. Coffee hadn't kicked at that point. :(
