Looks like we need to replace the clutch in our defender. Got all the hoists etc. but no pit and the 2 of us doing it are not exactly athletic. (although we do have a small boy available. Sort of chimney sweeps apprentice)
Whats easier, taking the engine out or the gearbox?

I always do the gearbox for the clutch. Remove the floor and centre seat cover. Remove the hi-lo lever as well. This gives you enough room to move the box back with the seat box in place. Don't forget, diff lock light wire, reverse light wire, speedo and handbrake cables and both prop shafts.

There is a bolt in crossmember just under the flywheel housing. If you remove this and the centre section of the exhaust you will have plenty of room.

You will also need an axle stand underneath the flywheel housing to stop the engine tipping back.

I've also found a 15mm deep socket with some tape wrapped around one end makes for a good alignment tool.
