Hi all got a 94(m) disco 300tdi manual. Ok here goes. Past 3 weeks every now and then it would judder when pulling off in first, but not all the time maybe once or twice aweek. Then today driving fine no bother. My better half got to the top of the road and found she couldn't select a gear when down shifting when slowing down. The only way to select a gear now is to switch the engine off select a gear then restart the engine. Also the clutch pedal feels strange, its quite hard to press the first time but after a couple of pumps its seem fairly normal. Also when pressing the pedal, there is a loud creeking coming from under the bonnet. Now in know this sound like the clutch is at fault and may well be,but there has been no smell of buring, nor has it been slipping in any gear. When i but the high low box in neutral i can then select any gear with clutch, put it back into high range again and it just grindes when trying to select a gear. Last thing for about the same length of time there has been a click again not all the time, sometimes when braking, other times when chaning into second gear.I have had no loss of fliuds, and clutch pedal returns as normal every time. So what do the good poeple of landyzone think. And am i thinking right when i say CLUTCH.
cheers alex

Sounds like clutch is toast, well the pressure plate springs, if it is stiff to push down pedal, sounds like you need to split the engine form box and have a look around but if you are doing that you may aswell do the clutch anyway, but check the clutch release fork is free also.

slave cylinder bracket snapped ? flywheel failure ?

has this only started since towing that escort back ???

at least she made it home today :hysterically_laughi

let me know when you need me, i will come and help, not had me phone on me all day if you have tried to phone

Its looking like it the release bearing that has caused the problems. Think it has broken up and it has stopped rattling. So looks like its mashed up in the pressure plate. Oh well shall get a 4 piece clutch kit ordered may aswell replace the spigot bush aswell.
