300Tdi Chuffing noise

Hi Guys,

My 94 300tdi disco has started to make a chuffing/ticking noise on startup very recently. I have a feeling the exhaust manifold gasket. I opened the bonnet and noticed grey smoke around the manifold just after starting. After 30-50secs or so it quietens down and i never hear it when shes warm at all.

I felt round the back of the head for head gasket leaks but nothing. The water isnt pressurised either. All appears to be well.

Any ideas?

your propably right manifold gaskets are prone for blowing

i think thats it. The only other thing crossed my mind is the egr. I havnt mine blanked at the turbo manifold as i could undo the bolts. Its blanked on the other side of the egr module. I'm just wondering if the plunger is stuck inside and chuffing up and down upon startup
