I have just bought and fitted a reconditioned alternator on my Discovery.
The manual states that I should be getting anything from 13.6 to 14.6 volts when the car is running and loaded with headlights, rear screen etc.

My new alternator is only managing 13.58 when not loaded and 12.6 when loaded.

Anyone any thoughts whether this is OK?????????????????

It looks like your are losing a volt, it should remain roughly between 13.6 and 14.4 what ever the load and revs it's the current that is varable.. Are you doing your test with a good multimeter ie a Fluke as some meters give readings that are + or - 10% so that would show a voltage of 12.4 at 13.6 volts straight away.

I have a recon alternator in my other car and that only gives 12.8 no more no less and I havent had any problem sofar. If I had known at the time I may have gone back to the shop for a replacement.

Regards

It probably putting the charge back in your battery. Take it out for a decent run then measure again.
