I'd try connecting the sounder, but not the sensors. If that sets the alarm and doesn't sound the sounder, then open a door and see if that sounds the sounder .. just eliminating the sensors as being at fault.
Then connect the sounder and the sensors, same thing, see what works and what doesn't, process of elimination. Make sure your battery is fully charged when testing or working with any auto electronics.
Frankly if the previous owners disconnected the sounder and sensors together then he might have disconnected, or connected wrongly, almost anything so all beta are off and you might be better sorted by taking it to an independant garage or an auto/alarm electrician.
