Looking at buying a disco got about 4 grand .Dont know what to go for is td5 better economy and do they suffer as bad with rear chassis rot.And do they all have air suspension read it can be dear to sort if poblem. Also goodies can you still get plenty of ad ons like 300tdi eg winch bumper .
Any advice on the two would be great as not sure which to be looking at. Cheers

WELL, this will be a very opinionated subject, and its had alot of coverage before so search the forum but, Generally all TD5 owners would say have a TD5 and visa versa for 300.

Generally TD5 is less economical, more expensive to mend, and harder to mend, but they are so much better to drive and yes they all rust even the Disco 3. You can get plenty of goodies, but they will cost you. Probably talking around a grand for new bumper and winch, but that may be similar for a TDi, im not sure

Depends what you want really.

What he said. The deciding factor is what you want to use it for. A 300tdi can take more abuse without breaking so is better off road than on. A TD5 has much better handling and performance on road but is a bit more limited off road and you stand a better chance of it breaking and then the cost of fixing it are that much higher.

My previous landy was a 300tdi. My current is a TD5. I said then and still say now that for overall useability 300tdi is best.

Thanks, probably go for 300 tdi as i like to get my hands dirty rather than paying a garage. Also the fuel consumption would be an issue, as it would be replacing my 3.2 v6 trooper as thats bloody thirsty, and i'm sick of 15 mpg.

Why dont you get a a mint 200 or a good bodied 300 for about 1500 and spend the rest on the brazillian engine tgdv or sumin but its the 300 engine bored to 2.8

Then you will have best of both worlds
