you can bleed the system for the rest of your life but if air is getting in you will never fix it.

its a simple test when you see no air bubbles you can move on to the complicated stuff.

you don't have to tamper with the fuel lines to draw air in. Corrosion in the pipes as they come out of the tank would do it. It's an easy thing to check. Fit a length of clear pipe between the lift pump and the filter, start the engine and look for bubbles in the pipe. Always start with the simple things.

Bear in mind that on TDi 200 the pipes on top of the fuel sender were metal, but on TDi 300 they are plastic and plastic fuel lines.

Hi guys Ive been out all morning and ive put a clear fuel line from lift pump to fuel filter and primed and bleed system as in manual, and i seem to get all air out which takes a while :( then i fire it up with foot to the floor as per manual, and it fires and runs but when watchin clear fuel line there is a load of air but is of equal gaps if that makes sense could this be the lift pump? althou the lift pumps the fuel throu ok checked fuel line and all connections and fuel line which seems to be all plastic. after a little while it cuts out as i would expect with that much air ( air gaps are about 1" long when running)

try running it from a bottle of derv under bonnet-put lift pump feed into bottle and i/p return line-do all with clear pipe.if air clears up ,then leak is between tank and lift pump.
If air is still bad, suspect diaphram ruptured on lift pump-injection pump will start buzzing soon with that much air going through it-you have to have fuel only in the lines-no air

Check the spill return pipes from the injectors, I had a similar problem and was told this could be the cause, these pipes can become very brittle and draw air into the system.

It buzzes very load already and i thought diaphram on llift pump when it was running like this earlier can i ask wot you mean by i/p return line ??? and ill try it tomorrow after work and all my fuel lines are plastic as i checked all the way along :)

i/p return line = injection pump return line (back of pump where injector spill lines, meet injection pump return).
I would bet it is the lift pump diaphram ruptured (bet it is a brit part - get a delphi) on the engine side ie where you cannot see it

well there is a supprise, air in the fuel lines.

don't want to say i told you so but................

nice to get some feedback after all the effort members put in to help.

have you fixed it yet? what did you need to do?
