300 tdi disco bad starting in cold

hi guys,
yet another problem it must be the year for it...
when its very cold in the morning sometimes my disco takes ages to fire,when it does it chugs like hell,once ive blipped the throttle a load of white/greyish smoke bellows from its bum,after this its fine,no smoke,same power as usual,starts perfect the rest of the day even if its stood for 12 hours.it happens more than not but not all the time.just passed mot,i was told it is a very clean burner smoke wise.glow plugs fine/injectors not sure was going to change in summer last year just no pennies,serviced 2 weeks ago,new filters oil ect.checked water trap on front fuel filter no water,new timing belt/all timing bang on.
can someone shed some light on this as this disco i love it but its giving me some severe headaches lately.

Hi.fuel running back where.if its lift pump are they easy to fit.and where can i get the correct leak off pipes from all i can fined is plastic ones.

Little pipes between the injectors (three of), renewed mine with fish tank pipe, one of the banjo nuts was loose as well , might be worth a chech first. Banjo nuts = little bolts on side of injectors that hold the pipes.
 
ok.so if the pipes were knackered or split/perished wouldnt they be wet with diesel.im er a bit thick when it comes to fueling on diesels,are wont be owt to do with compression or owt daft like that then as this has been mentioned,it also knocked quite loud when its cold i forgot that bit only for first 10 mins or so.

i change my glow lugs a couple of month ago.but its always started first turn instant even in freezing weather without giving them chance to heat up.until now...

If the banjo bolts on the spill pipes are a wee bit loose air will get sucked in makin' it run a bit lumpy. Check them for tightness (go easy and don't over do it) or renew the copper washers either side of them and see if that makes any difference;)

Possibly be wet..... but they may let in air when engine cools down allowing the fuel to run back to tank.
Mine was a pig to start and chugged for a bit after.
put new leak off pipes on and it started instantly next morning and ticked over like a baby.
One of them was split and one of the banjos was loose. No leaking diesel though:)

It knocks louder when cold because it is getting excess fuel:)

Aye, it's been pretty much non stop here for most of the day! Took dogs out earlier and it was chuckin' it down... had to try and walk into it nearly horizontal!! Been gettin' loads of power cuts because of it anaw. Roll on sunnier climes tomorrow... and if it's not, then at least the pub is dry;):D:D

ive done the leak off pipes yip they were split but still got other problems,oil leak at back of engine,loss of power,and sometimes ticking at back of engine,

badly seated injector, leaking manifold gasket or leaking head gasket.
and the heater plugs are on a timer and come on regardless, staying
on for up to 5 seconds even when engines running.
