I have been looking at a 2007 double cab for a good price which was imported from Spain and is in great nick.
It is a LHD conversion which is strange in itself but whats funnier is that some one has gone to the trouble of converting to a 300 TDI engine and box and also full dashboard conversion. It has been entirely stripped of all the electronic wizardry although it has been done to a great standard apparently about a year ago by an outfit in Weymouth ??? Seems elec windows were all hooked up but central locking wasn't. All checks out on DVLA and HPI check is sound, shown as 2.5 litre TDI on V5 and not 2.2 or 2.4.
As i said its a good price, a nice conversion and i love the fact there are no electronics, in addition the old style defender dashboard means there is more knee room but as you can imagine i am concerned as to why on earth someone would go to the trouble of such a complex conversion if there wasn't something to hide
Can anyone give me any thoughts ideas or theories and most importantly should i but it ?????

When were the last 300tdi engines fitted for the export market?

I did not think it was as late as 2007, but it was certainly into the 2000s, so maybe?

Or do you know for sure that it was not a 300tdi at the start?

I am pretty sure its a later conversion cos the seller told me but you wouldnt know it looking at the truck. The other aspect that concerne me is MOT emmissions test cos there is not CAT and i am sure that the emission limit will be based on the age of the vehicle which is stated on the V5 as 2007 despite the fact it was first registered in 2014
