300 tdi centre box removal (straight through).

Anybody done it and just kept the back box? Are they noisy or just throaty like the TD5's? My box is battered and has a hole in it, I have some heavy duty flexi-pipe that I was gonna weld in its place but don't want it to be defening. I have already removed the CAT (by cutting a flap in the CAT and removing the inards then welding up)... What a difference that made! It was like driving a totally different car.
A mates TD5 sounds very nice without middle box. Does anybody know if it makes 300tdi's sound like nova 1.2's with a straight through exhaust?

I've done it. Slightly deeper noise inside the cabin, slightly deeper outside, but not much louder at all, if you see what I mean ... do a search, there's a few threads about it recently.

It's been answered a thousand times mate.
From personal experience, de-cating a 300TDi makes sod all difference to MPG or performance, cutting out the middle box just makes a lot more noise. Don't bother.

Cheers, apprecited its been covered loads and know its perfectly legal to swap the cat for a straight through - just wasn't sure what the mot man would think of cutting up the cat and resealing

It made alot of difference to mine as it was blocked/full of mud and was preventing the turbo from spooling up. My centre box is damaged and leaking, so I can either weld it up or replace it with pipe. Just want to know if it will make it sound like a nova with a cherry bomb on.

put a straight though on my 300 tdi made a big difference sounds a little louder and goes a lot better

MIne has had the cat and centre box out for 2 mot's now. better on a run but only a couple of mpg.

Also run a large k+n filter for the intake, EGR blanked off as it was stuck open.

Seems a lot better towing, not faster or too loud.

300 tdi centre box removal (straight through).
