300 t.d.i auto something just went

Been out and about today in my 94 300 t.d.i auto .Drove up to my dads house cruise motorway no probs.Parked on his drive left car running in park while I delivered package .Got back in car put her in reverse started to reverse loud grinding clatter noise.Stopped and put in park still making horrible noise.Turned her off and tried to start. started but same noise.Had to push her to safe spot on drive and there she sits.Got any ideas?.Gutted cause Im supposed to be going down Wales with family in caravan for easter.

Does she have a difflock lever? If so make sure you haven't knocked it when getting out.

Just as ratty says.... It may b that or the lever was not engaged fully.

Thanks for advice lads.Ive never used difflock lever, never needed to.Guy I bought it of last year did though. Maybe he didn't engage it properly.Ill have a look when Igo up to my dads tonight.

Found out what all the noise was.Alternator had sheared a mounting bracket and a bolt and come forward against a pulley on front of engine.Thats what sreeching and grinding was.Need a replacement aternator now.Does anyone know what alternator I need , old one said lucas on side but thats all I could make out.Is it 65 or 100 amp?Anyone know where I can get one for best price .Need one tommorow really.

It is a 65amp. If you have a winch or a second battery or are intending to get either then go for the 100amp.
