I keep on reading folk saying they can get 30+ MPG from their auto's, is this actually right or are they spouting bovine excrement???

I have De-catted and De-EGR'd mine, freed off the brakes, fitted new air filter and the only thing I can think left to try is replacing all oils in the transfer box, diffs and swivels... Yet the best i can manage is ~25MPG

Any more ideas?

Since writing off my ES I drive a little more conservatively and regularly get 400 miles (mixed lanes, town, dual carraigeway etc) from a tank of government type drizzel.Do the maths if you want, dont know if thats good or bad but Im happy with it.
Regular filter changes,de-EGR'd but havent got round to fitting the de cat section yet...I just drive around with it in the back, thus upping my load and downing my MPG.
One point of interest, dont know what effect it has,....the earlier ther EDC auto engine, the higher the idle (and through the range) revs...observed over several of varying age in possesion of family and friends....:confused::confused:

...at the end of the day,its like the man said : "Simplicate and add lightness"

:D:D:D

my 300 tdi auto edc has egr removed, single box decatted exhuast, uprated intercooler and chip, a roof rack underbody protection and winch bumper

around town i reckon I am gettign 20 mpg thats taking it easy

So none of you are getting 30+ then... ;)

I know manual's are capable of that, but didn't think the auto would be. I'm happy enough at 25 (the bike usually gets ~17 and thats only a 1L engine!) but obviously would love to save some extra cash if my motor ain't running quite right!

I have got 33mpg over the last 13,000mls !!!! This includes daily work, runs, trip to Morroco and towing.

My car ('98 Tdi 300auto EDC) has:
1. De-catt
2. De-EGR
3. Tyre pressures checked regularly
4. Oils and filters changed every 6000 or 6 months
5. Viscous fan taken off.

When doing runs, I usually cruise at about 60mph as I've found the mpg drops noticeably as the speed increase.
