it sure has, think i read that they froze it in 1997 to pre 73

the petition needs 100,000 signitures for the treasury to make it eligible for debate in the House of Commons, the petition finishes on 05/08/12 so every name counts from now till then

id rather the money was spent on maintaining aclassic than taxing her

nothing like seeing a good ole classic

worth the minute it takes to sign it for sure

I thought it used to be 25 years not 30?

Correct, it was frozen for vehicles pre 1st Jan 1973 in 1998 (25 years difference)

I'm very cynical about the petitions - the few which have reached 100,000 either have been ignored and not debated in parliament or just get commented on and ignored by parliament.

i hope to god they return the rolling tax exemption it would be like an extra incentive to get and restore a series 3 but on the down side of this series 3 landys would go up in value and be more sought after ..... hmmm food for thought

they are more likely to take away the free tax for pre 73 cars if you bring this up at the moment , ffs shut up and keep quiet!

agreed, the government is unlikely, at a time of hardship to say, yes we'll re-introduce something which will mean we miss out on 1,000,000's in taxes each year.

to be fair i dont think that they would miss out on much economy, i very rarely see a car on the road that is anywhere near 3 decades old

thats probably due to the fact that there is no tax exemption for anything made after '73, id imagine there have been a lot of future classics have been thrown away since they stopped the rolling 26 year exemption back in '98
as there's not the same appeal for them in todays culture as they'l never be tax exempt.

i personally think that if they did bring this up in the commons then there's a good case to argue to get it put back in place and if theres enough noise made about it then they have no option but to review it.

you can but try lads :)
