3 Door roof racks

looking into purchasing one, have found one but the seller has told me the plastic has cracked in two places but it doesnt effect the stucture of the bars.

is this correct or should i walk away?

they will corrode and the rest of plastic will fall off how but if only using occasionally wont matter that much,but if permanent roof bars would look poor reasonably quickly

Can they be repaired? Would prob fixing them on permantley

I have had two 3 door Freebies both with bars the last one just like MH current one has crack lines in the powder costing. I just clean it out and withs small brush paint it with Hammerite or similar to protect the alloy underneath. It seems fine and got no worse. I reckon it's expansion and contraction that does it. Left unattended then it may open up and flake.

The earlier 3 door roof bars didn't have drain holes. The vertical sections of the bars retained water and come cold weather the water froze and expanded, cracking the aluminium. This showed up as a silver vertical crack on the rear of the bars. Unless you can inspect your prospective purchase walk away.
