My 3.9 V8 Auto has an intermittent fault. Every now and again the engine dies completely. This always happens at low revs. There is no problem in restarting but it may then just cut out again. It's a bit unnnerving when it happens when I have the caravan on the back and I'm going round a roundabout! Can anyone shed any light. Many thanks.:)

The exact same thing happened to me and it turned out to be one of the fuel injectors. I put several fuel cleaners in the tank and it eventually got better what made the biggest difference was running on super unleaded.

The strangest thing was most of the time it was fine but use to conk out in car parks and at traffic lights very very annoying.

If the fuel cleaners dont work then you will have to take the injectors out and either refurb them or buy new ones. Also change the fuel filter.

Lots of fuel cleaners worked for me i then had a problem with one of the ignition leads so ended up replacing all the HT leads as well. Car runs like a dream now.

But for a quick fix put a fuel cleaner in and fill up with a higher octane petrol than the normal 95, the optimax is a good one. This method worked permanently for me.

Let me know how you get on McSteel, the optimax is very good at cleaning your entire fuel system. The injectors, over time get clogged especially if you run the tank near empty a few times. Hopefully you wont have to replace the injectors.
