Ive just found out that 3.5 and 3.9 main bearings are the same , in the center or no 3bearing holder sometimes only has the upper has a thrust bearing and the bottom one only accepts a plain bearing ...
Rover Main Bearings 3.5,3.9,4.2 ( Quality Federal Mogul Brand) - V8 Tuner

***Note***
Most 3.9 & 4.2 and some replacement 3.5 Litre Land Rover, Morgan & TVR Engines, have a thrust centre bearing in the upper half of the block only.

The centre main CAP will not accept the thrust type bearing and therefore an extra plain bearing shell will be required.

Ive just looked and they are the ones because it only comes with one upper . But they ate britparts and Im not a fan of their stuff . Bad experience restoring a series 3. So opted for genuine buick parts .

britpart is the largest of the 3 main landy parts wholesalers g means genuine not cheap pattern ,most genuine stuff is supplied through them ,the fact a lot only by the cheap pattern and not genuine or branded that they sell isnt their fault

fedral mogal are good though...dont worry about price..whats done is done..

may i recomend AUTOPOST..in croydon...ask for Paolo..(might av spelt that wrong, pronounced pall-low)...he is good...knows his stuff, parts are cheap..ask for genuine or OE..they have (he does asnyway) no quibble warrenty, always excellent service..

do not speak with older lady or gent..only paolo!!!(cos older gent is rude, and older lady knows feck all)

ignore their website ..it is crap..just ring them..NO PAOLO =NO ORDER..

i have rebuilt my 4.6 using thier parts.(and turners).perfect fit..20psi oil on cranking (starter only) using their OE tappets, rockers (steel ones) and shafts..these he uses himself..

otherwise..turners..real steel......not rimmers..not paddocks...people on phone are sales only..no knowledge..(though parts are ok..)

Thanks zen ill keep them in mind for future parts.
Ive just spoke to john eales and he said just file the lug hole out a bit to accept the lower thrust bearing so that it then matches the upper thrust bearing . See photos on page 5 . Once all them are done I can torque up and make a start on the conrods .

ive just filed the lower holder no 3 down and now the lower thrust bearing fits perfectly , so the no 3 both have upper and lower thrust bearings in , im a little concerned about the gap or lack of gap between the cap and bearing and the crank see photo ,ill wait to see what people think before I torque them up
