Hi all.

A friend drove my Range Rover to the MOT test station today and has informed me that it went into second gear and then wouldn't shift up again. It hasn't done much this last year to be honest. It's a 1992.
I won't be able to look at it for another day, but could anyone please offer some advice on where's a good place to start fault finding?

Thanks in advance, Stuart.

Perhaps oil level would be a good place to start

That was a given, lol.
Is there a dipstick in the engine bay for the queer box? Or is it a case of removing the fill plug to check if it's bath filled? (I haven't owned it long and been so busy ice not done much with it). It's been in the bodyshop having bodywork repairs carried out.

Thanks for replying, Stuart.

I'm assuming it's an auto. In which case, as Freelance said, a check on the amount and quality of the ATF is where I'd start. It's possibly never been changed so new fluid, a new filter, a bottle of Lucas, crossed fingers and some driving could hopefully be a cheap remedy.

As all estate agents say, location location location, put it in and you never know there may be someone close who will have a look for you.:)

Which auto box is it? If it's the pre electronic ZF4HP22, could be the regulator has stuck.
Oil & filter change and a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix may help.

Thanks for helpful replies, all.
I'll carry out recommended actions in the next couple of weeks and report back!

Thanks again, Stuart.
