Hi guys

I'm looking at putting a 2in lift on my D2, keeping the SLS air springs. I do some greenlaning, and I think I can justify going for taller tyres than I have now but that obviously means lifting the suspension.

I'm a bit new to all this and I need some guidance as to whether I might be biting off more than I can chew. While I'm totally up for learning how to do this sort of thing, I don't have a lot of experience with vehicle mechanics - and none with suspension, brake lines etc. I guess I'm happy to do easy "swap in" jobs but I wouldn't be comfortable if I need to improvise and start drilling holes where none exist...

Also, I'd have to carry out this work in the (uncovered) car park at the office as I don't have a driveway. I have axle stands and plenty of tools but no other equipment.

Looking at the discovery2.co.uk website, changing the back end seems pretty straightforward. Changing the front end looks more difficult.

So, some questions to start with:

1) Will I need to depressurise the SLS system? Do I need a nanocom for this?

2) Is it a pretty straightforward job to insert the spacers under the airsprings with only axle stands and hand tools? (I don't really want to get into drilling under the car etc...)

3) is extending brake lines reasonably straightforward? Not sure what's involved in draining, testing for safety when reconnected, etc...

By the way, if anyone is up for lending me a hand, and showing me the ropes at the same time, I'm more than happy to pay a decent rate. The car is in SE London.

Thanks as always.

presumably spacers would bolt to pre-existing holes for coil version (10mm x 1.5 tap helps to clean those threads)? youd need different height sensors or extended rods )to take into account of increased trailing arm angle ,id get new clips for top of air spring ,you can depressurise by undoing pipe connector were it screws into top of spring all the way isnt necessary you can check seal with soapy water after, vehicle jack between axle and chassis helps ,do one corner only at a time ,front may need caliper piston removing from slides so you can jack axle down from chassis far enough to fit spring undoing turret is necessary ,shocker pushes up into it enough to change spring ,try with std brake flexis first as there is a good bit of slack before breaking into hydraulic circuit

The spacers for the bags do just bolt on but you will need to tap the holes to take the bolts if not already done, if i remember rightly they are M12, you will also need +2" shocks for the rear, if you put it in off road mode it will top out the original shocks so the ride will be solid, iv'e done the lift on mine and is easy to do, didn't go for spacers on the front, changed the springs for +2", and dont forget you will need extended brake hoses aswell, as for ride hieght sensors, you should get 2 flat extender brackets with the kit, i will attach a pic of mine.

If you look at last pic, you will see the small 2" extender bracket for the ride sensor
With regards to the brake hoses, the nanocom will do the bleeding for you if you have one, or its the old way with a freind
Hope this helps

Thanks Cruiser. To a complete novice like myself, pictures like that is worth about 10,000 words... :)

Where did you buy the spacers and springs from?

I think I'd better buy a nanocom, as I don't have any friends :)

Well i suppose you have 1 friend now but to far for me to travel just to do your lift, heres another picture of the spacer bar for the ride height sensor
If you need any more pics or info mate just give me a shout

As you can see the shocks have been changed and i have the extended brake hoses aswell

on the compressor side of things, the nearest pipe is for the near side bag and the furthest is the offside, you can unscrew them 1 at a time and release the pressure, that way if your bags are original you can still use them as originals are screw in and the updated ones are push in.

Thanks mate, you're a star. I'm ordering the parts this week and I'm giving myself all day Sat and Sun to do this in case I feck it up.
