2A clutch problems

hello all i am in desperate need of help with my series 2A, 2 1/4 diesel.
every now and then i will be driving along changine gear and all of a sudden i have no drive at all, i try the clutch and change gears but nothing, ive tried sticking it in 4 wheel drive but nothing, ive changed into low box but nothing, eventually after about 5 minutes of dumping the clucth and messing about it sets off and works fine.
its done this 3 times within the last 3 weeks, but this afternoon after it had done it this morning i go out to find there is a weeping of clutch fuid from the clutch pedal and on the bit of carpet underneath, a look up under the pedal shows its coming from the master cylinder, so i know i need to change this, but im worried its still going to do this again as i had the centre seat inspection hatch open and looking through while it was stuck with no drive this morning and it was moving the clutch arm / lever going into the gearbox as i was pressing / releasing it with no drive.
any ideas?
i wouldnt mind if it did it and stayed like it and then like the reliant i had that had been stood released and never bothered again but this is winding me up.
PLEASE HELP BEFORE I GO MAD i was happy that it was a 40 year old landy in daily use and very reliable untill this problem raised its head.

sounds like the seals within the cylinder are not returning. so the mechanical things are moving correctly, but the seal is slow to respond causing a halt to the fluid and therefore keeping the clutch open...

Im having the same with my 2a lightweight, but its only momentarily, in that I can change gear, come straight off the pedal and have to wait 1-2sec for it to engage. makes roundabouts interesting, but Im sure its helping save halfshafts as its got a V8

worth changing the slave too while your at it.

change them both, wont cost much and take it from there.

Well worth changing the hydraulic bits first 'cos it's reasonably cheap and easy and will probably fix your problem - sounds like you need a new master cylinder anyway. If it doesn't fix it you will have to look at the clutch mechanism in the bellhousing.

Have a visul inspection and jsut make sure that it is not leaking from a pipe/connector need the master cylinder - you would be quite annoyed if you changed it and it wasn't the problem!

I would recommend a genuine maste cylinder if you only want to do the job once.
