Personal choice :D:p

Yea everyone has an opinion. I didn't want to start a debate about wether to take one or two spares, because while I do understand the reasons for only taking one, I have decided to take two. I will also be taking a puncture repair kit, inner tubes, and tyre irons.

The reason I am taking two spares is because I have read plenty stories of people in Africa getting at least 2 punctures per day, and frankly I don't want to be dicking about on the side of the road in Algeria or somewhere with tyre irons where I risk getting kidnapped or robbed or soddomised by a randy camel..

Even if I'm not somewhere dangerous, I'd still rather just change a wheel on the side of the road in midday heat and do punture repair at camp in the evening when it's cooler and more relaxing.

So with all due respect, all I want to know is if anyone actually has a 265 or a 235 on their bonnet, and wether they can see. Cause I'm still swaying between 235 or 265 for my Africa trip. If you have done atually done the Africa trip your views on tyre sizes is appreciated.

Cheers Guys

booger, have you got a 90? If so consider your weight carefully. You only have 2450Kg (or 2550 on HDs) and a spare will add considerably to this.

If you have a 110 ignore me :D

PERSONALLY: I would take 1 spare and a spare carcuss. If you have the tools, you can change it yourself, but there will always be someone close by to change it for you. I met someone on BFG MT's in a LC who travelled the east coast, through Europe and down the west coast. No punctures.

If your puncturing twice daily your doing something wrong or running the wrong tires.

I dont think the kids and missus will be happy sitting by the side of the road while I'm dicking about changing tyres over on rims.....and I have a 110

Okay the key in that statement is Land Cruiser, he probably was too scared to leave the tarmac. :hysterically_laughi

I like going of piste, planning to do the entire Skeleton coast etc etc, pretty sure I'm getting punctures :p

You couldnt be further from the truth. This guy was South African and towing a trailer with his wife and kids. He tackled the Congo, the DRC, Angola etc. Not scared of pistes or taking his LC through some rough stuff. He drove so quick over gravel pistes in Morocco he blew both shocks on the trailer.

Good luck travelling off piste. hope your navigation skills are **** hot and you have an accompanying vehicle.

Okay not getting any sensible responce from the peanut gallery I found a 265/65/16 and put it on the bonnet, there is no way that would be allowed.

It looks like a 750 / 195 ish mm is about the max you could get away with.

Does anyone have a larger tyre on their bonnet ??

There may well be folks out there with bigger tyres on their bonnets however they probably cant see too well, n if yer thinkin of goin orft piste I humbly suggest forward vision would be an advantage. :D
