Hello,

I'm having a little problem with my 200TDI which was blowing out white/blue smoke on acceleration.

Long story short, The landy was giving a full service, new valve stem seals and now currently waiting on another turbo to arrive, I have removed the turbo and manifold tonight as the pictures show.

The turbo itself looks fine but there is some end float, at first I was thinking the seals have gone on the turbo so ordered another one.

I have also cleaned the intercooler as this was soaked with oil inside.

Could be quite a number of things.

How bad is the smoke, just a puff, or filling the street?

Is the engine generally worn, or low mileage, and what sort of oil are you using?

Regarding the smoke issue, it’s only bad when under heavy acceleration which big clouds of smoke are coming from rear.

When I done the valve stem seals, I also cleaned out the intercooler and manifold etc and fitted all new hoses and afterwards took her for a test drive.

About 30 minutes after running the smoke started to come back under heavy acceleration. I did notice oil was coming from rear of turbo down the exhaust and manifold itself was covered in oil inside.

The landy has only done 90k, when serviced I used 15/40 shell oil which was recommended. Anyway a new turbo is due to arrive today so going to get that fitted and see what happens, hopefully its been the turbo seals that have gone.

If that is the original turbo it is probably getting tired after 90k. Hopefully it will solve the problem. Certainly shouldn't be wear issues on a Tdi at 90k.

Is there much oil residue on the oil breather pipe where it fits into the air filter housing?

Is it me, or is anyone else concerned about the amount of oil coming from the exhaust ports, to me it suggests that it's not the turbo, more likely to be the rings/HG.

As I posted earlier, thought there might be a number of possibilities :(

90k is very low mileage is very low for it to have worn the rings or bores, hg more likely, perhaps.
