Just had my transmission oil replaced any now I have a major leak from the front prop seal. I assume that this is because the new oil is less viscous and is getting out.

How hard is it to replace this old seal? Is a gear box out job?

Thanks

if it ain't got a leak it ain't a land rover.

Didn't happen to notice how much came out, and remember it's A.T.F for the gearbox and hypoid for the transfer box. Don't the drives come out of the transfer, so if yer put ATF in then its like water and it's gona **** out.

I know the oils are different for different models, but just a thought for yer to check

The seal on the output shaft is a doddle to replace, pull the prop (mark before removing), undo large nut (30ish mm and flipping tight), remove felt washer, remove steel washer, pull off flange, pull out seal and tap in a new one. put all back in reverse order and all is done!

After looking at my post, watch the order of removal of the felt/steel washers as I got them back to front......sorry.

Hi I Hve Just Done Mine, The 30mm Nut Is Really Tight, the Best Way To Do It Is Put A Pair Of Big Pipe Grips On The Prop Flange, And Undo The Nut With Grips Pulling Against The The Box Section,it Leaves A Few Small Lines But No Problems,a Quick Rub With A File Leaves It Fine.reverse To Put Back.
