Hi everyone;

Looking for some advice here, we've got a landrover 110 with a 200tdi conversion. E reg so 1988 i believe, looking to change the transfer box out for one with a 1.2 ratio. Reason being is she is used a lot more for distance/normal driving than it is for towing. Looking for better mpg and lower revs/noise etc.

Is there a specific model number, set up etc i should be looking for? Thanks in advance.

Matt

Hi,
You want the lt230 1.2 ratio transfer box that is out of a discovery 300tdi wich will also have a cross drilled input gear that supplies oil to the splines unlike the earlyer boxes that didn't, causing spline wear.

And before you ask as no doubt you will just to check, the 300tdi will fit the 200tdi ;)
You have to modify the handbreak, best way is to keep the discovery handbrake drum on the new transferbox (direct entry type) and then it's just a small fiddle at the handbrake lever end just getting it fitted on.

Ive probably not explained it in detail enough so just messege me if have any questions I'm always changing transfer boxes in and out hahaaa bloomin land rovers ;)

Ps if you'd have done a search there will be topics covered before explain all this!

Thanks for the reply :) I had suspected it was the LT230 type which we needed so im glad my research was correct. I will get on the hunt for one now! Once/If I find one @ a good price/condition then I am sure I will be back asking for more help.

Thanks again!

Later 200Tdi ones also had the cross drilled gear so it's not just 300Tdi ones. There is a suffix on the transfer box which will help identify if it does or doesn't but not sure what that suffix is right now. Converting to the Defender transmission brake is not hard, just 2 holes tapped and that's it. I may have a transfer box out of a late 200Tdi kicking around too...

The one thing I don't like about this is the lack of grunt pulling away when you have a heavy load in the back. The larger tyres compared to a Discovery means that you need a good engine to allow it to cope with the extra weight. Mine is OK, but I kinda wish I had a 1.4 transfer box in it. But the speedo is accurate so that's a bonus.

Pulling away shouldnt be too much of a problem, it is very rarely full or even heavy laden as it is only me and the girlfriends dad who like landrovers haha! Thanks :)
