Hello,
Since aquiring a '93 D1 3 door version on Friday I have been working my way round the electrics that don't work.

Got the tachometer working by making the connection with White wire to the back of the alternator W terminal.

However, got no temp guage at the moment. With engine reasonable warm and running I have 10.3v at the temp sensor on the block. So am I right to assume the actual dash instrument is not working?

Fuel gauge works fine just in case they share the voltage stabiliser.

Any thoughts greatfully received.

Does it actually get hot? Does the needle move off the bottom of the gauge?

I would imagine that the Mpi would use the same sender as the 200Tdi but have you cross referenced the part numbers?

200Tdi = PRC9917

Mpi = ADU7161

Not sure about the compatibility of senders and receivers?

Perhaps a trip to a motorfactors with to see if they can compare parts and see if you can get one to fit?

Many thanks, never occurred to me to check sender/instrument comparability.

The needle doesn't move tho' isn't sits at the bottom of the scale.

Compatibility is easy, ADU7161 is an EFI ECU coolant temp sensor and PRC9917 is a dash gauge coolant temp sensor for use with a 200tdi.

Just to add to the above ... You will or may possibly require a temp sensor to match the dash gauge and not the engine, I believe that how it works, finding out the correct one and if the Mpi sensor fits the Tdi engine, is for u to find out :)
Unfortunately there two to choose from, White YCB10019 and Green AMR1425 both dash gauge temperature sensors.

Righty ho, according to various parts sites on the web, the 300tdi and MPI sensor are the same part no AMR1425.
That's tomorrow's purchasing mission.

Only the reversing lights and heated rear window to sort out after that

But you have a 200 Tdi so be prepared for a different thread size to the 300 item, but I suspect that there is a thread adapter available somewhere.

Ok, I'll checking tomorrow with the 4x4 guys at Clutton (Somerset). If you live in Somerset you've got to have a Land Rover - its the law.

Many hanks for your help on this, I found that even the new 200tdi temp sensor although the same diameter as the sensor that is in the head, has a much finer thread.

The existing sensor is the original 200tdi sensor that came with the RRC donor engine.

So, lots of things to check here including whether the drop in resistance in the existing sensor when it heats up is more than 200ohms. If it is then the existing sensor is fine and we are then in the realms of a sensor to ECU type rather than one to gauge.

Stands to reason that the MPi is an ECU type as the petrol engine was run by an ECU with it being electronic fuel injection.

Thanks to people who looks at this, it turned out to be a new sensor required - PRC8593. So the temp guage is connected directly to the sensor unit even on the MPI as the dash has never been removed for rewiring.

Great result, thank u for letting the Forum know.
It appears, after my Google search, that sensor is a Defender part, but Ha Ho it works :)

Now back to the Rugby :cool:
