Disco 1 200tdi stop solenoid replacement?

My 200tdi Disco sometimes likes running so much it doesn’t want to stop! Pretty sure it’s the stop solenoid, so have bought another one.

I think I’ve located it as picture, but how the hell do you get it out?! No idea how to get a spanner in there, also doesn’t look like enough room to unscrew it fully. Haynes says it’s an easy job..?!

Iirc it is a 24mm spanner, I cut mine right down to fit. A lot of grinding to slim it down.

Although removing the bracket can make it easier, just be a bit gentle on the spanner as with the bracket removed the pump is only supported by the front casting.

as @neilly says re. bracket removal & altering a spanner, also remove the injector-pipes iirc

chaged one on one of my 200tdi Disco's, once changed there was no difference BUT I did find metal fragments on the solenoid's rubber plunger head that pointed to the pump breaking-down internally

replaced the pump & all was back to normal
