200tdi steering problem on my 110

was driving home the other day and steering all of a sudden steering went very tight and had lost all power steering.

pulled over and fluid was all over the engine bay, (however i have no idea where this came from as all pipes and fittings look fine)

anyway pump was smoking, as it was extremely hot, so removed the belt and made my way home.

thinking it was the pump knackered, ive just fitted a new one.

still no change! and doesnt look to be circulating on idle, on my own thats all i can check.

any help would be appreciated.

It could be the box rather than the pump?

well yeah but what can go wrong with the box?

Seals can break, parts inside can wear, lots of things unfortunately.

do you have experience with this, can still turn the wheel ok just very very stiff.

also if i jack up the front then all seems relatively free, so what exactly would be wrong do you think?

When i got mine the power steerig was very stiff, replacig box fixed that. I'd be tempted to work out where the fluid came from, as it'll probably point you to the cause

It does sound like the box had a similar thing with my old transit not quite the same, but I changed the steering box it made so much difference. Could try changing the fluid first maybe.
