I replaced my 2.25 petrol engine in my LR90 with a 200TDI,
The engine ran badly when revved and smoked heavily with thick blue smoke.

I took off the head and cylinders 1 and 4 were wet with diesel, the exhaust ports were also wet.

Any idea what could have caused this?
I dont know if i should replace the engine or build it back up?

Regards, Steve

i know where i can get hold of another head so maybe best to give it a try, if i were to buy a new head gasket can i re-use the head bolts?

If you buy new bolts dont get the cheap ones, few stories about of them snapping.
Have you checked the turbo to see if its leaking oil?

Turbo was replaced as i suspected it may have been the cause (it has loads of play)

Im now at the stage where im debating on either replacing the engine or rebuilding it,
if the injection pump was out slightly could that cause the issues im having?

Get the original head pressure tested instead of just getting another.

I had a cheap set of new head bolts and one snapped... ****ed me right off..

Id say rebuild the engine to you, but if u decide not to then give me a shout I'm looking for a 200tdi that needs rebuilding so i can take my time and learn a little more as ive never done 1.
