Dragged the new chassis out and t-washed it today in the p*****g rain.

Really annoyed to find areas where the galv has been touched up with paint which is going to cause me issues before painting :(

what do you mean touched up with paint? any pics, when i t washed mine there were a couple of patches that wouldn't go as dark as the rest, is that what u mean? if it is them mine painted up fine no problems. Sam

this looks like a great thread in the making. i am toying with giving mine a galv chassis in a wee while. i look forward to seeing the rest of the job.

Gonna try and get rid of as much of the peeling bits as possible before painting and then see what happens.

T-wash is an acid which eats slightly into the galvanising to provide a key for paint. It also removes any grease or impurities left from the galvanising process

Just started stripping the axles, and rather than finding a worn out nightmare, the diff is in surprisingly good order with slight wear on the halfshaft splines. I was quite certain that the diffs would be worn out so I've looked around and have been offered a set of 24spline diffs, half shafts and cvs for £200. Just trying to work out wether or not the swap from 10 to 24 spline would be worth it.

It's not the paint I'm worried about, it's wether or not the t washed surface needs any prepping after being washed, I'm going to a paint specialist tomorrow so ill find out then, thanks anyway

again not sure if I'm being helpful to you, when i did my chassis i simply brushed it onto the fresh galv it went grey/black then hosed it off and let it dry then painted it.;)

Thought I'd better give a little update on my progress.

Chassis still not painted cos of the cold weather we've had recently so hopefully ill be able to get it retreated and painted this weekend.

Getting on well sorting out the axles, both are now stripped and I've got new running gear ready to go in. Just waiting on a new rear axle casing and hopefully all going well ill have a rolling chassis before the end of the month!! :)

watching this closely, Glad its still going. :) You will be really pleased when it starts to resemble a land rover again. :D

Keep at it dude. ;)

Unfortunately not got much done this weekend, although I did manage to chop up the old chassis and launched it all on the farm scrap pile. Found some rather worrying damage once I got an inside view of the chassis.
