I put in my new (2nd hand) injector pump today, and all was well until I started it up. It's idling at very high revs, full throttle in fact, and belching out enough smoke to elect the next Pope. Could this just be a timing issue or do I have bigger problems?

Also worth checking fuel screw on the back of the pump, if seal missing could be wound in to far, this can raise the idle rpms, not sure if if will cause it to run flat out but certainly worth a look.
Its the screw with the 13mm spanner locknut and the 6mm spanner size head.
The two 10mm spanner sized ones each side are idle and max adjustments.
Might be worth posting up a pic as you may have bent something fitting the pump and someone may be able to see whats wrong.

Back to this!
I've had my old pump refurbished, and sorted out the battery problem.
Now it takes a good few seconds to start and belches out white smoke, and isn't firing well on all cylinders. If I drive it for a mile or so the smoke clears and it runs perfectly. I though it would be a one off to clear unburnt fuel from the exhaust, but I've driven it 3 times now and it does the same every time.

injectors are indeed a possibility, though presuming this is a new development coinciding with pump repair ,what did they do to pump

Fully refurbished by Diesel Bob. There was swarf in the old pump, very little but I'm hoping not enough to do any damage to the injectors. Funds are dwindling and I need a new rear door!
