200Tdi pump problem

Injector (s) dripping is a good possibility, get them tested.
I say this because I had exactly the same thing but different vehicle.
The drippy injectors chuck in too much fuel when cold starting which floods it (causeing the long cranking) and then it fires, blowing out white unburnt fuel smoke and idles lumpy until the cylinders are cleared. Driving up the road clears the smoke because the engine is warmer and the drippy injectors are either smoothing out injecting better or the cylinders are copeing with the excess fuel because of the higher revs.
I'd wager the longer you leave it ticking over the worse the smoke will get and the longer it will take to clear when driving.
Get them checked if the cleaner don't sort it.
This is assuming the timing is correct of course!
Did you remove the keeper plate and lock the pump properly before timing everything up?

I had issues with my other 200tdi Disco, low power, slow starting, bit lumpy & white smoke so naturally I changed the headgasket

then the injectors o_O:rolleyes:

oh, well, atleast I know the headgasket is ok for a while

Rich.
