I have just fitted a 200tdi into a series 3 and I am having trouble firing the engine up.

I seem to be having a problem getting diesel to the injectors although there appears to be a good flow in the return pipe work.

Have opened the fuel shut off at the pump and when using the lift pump there is no fuel being delivered to the injectors.

Similarly when I turn the engine over on the starter there is no fuel at the injectors although I can see fuel in all the supply pipe work.

Presumably I should be getting fuel at the injectors by doing either of these.

Any ideas what could be wrong, am I missing something simple?

maybe this is a silly question - did the engine run before you fitted it ?

you might need to get the injectors reconditioned as they are clearly not passing any fuel - was the engine left standing outside for a while, or has it been running SVO which has clogged ?

oh and can you post a few pics of yer engine bay, i've done a few of these conversions now but it's always nice to see how other people do things

Bought the engine off a guy on this site who said it was running, no reason to disbelieve him. The engine has been lying since last august while I did some welding on the bulkhead etc but kept it garaged. The problem is that no fuel appears to be passing the fuel injection pump I.e. there is clearly a supply going into the pump when I bleed at the connection but nothing at the other side when pumped manually or by turning over the starter motor.

Wondered maybe if the electric shut off switch is jammed or something similar??

As far as I know no SVO used but don’t think the problem is the injectors.

the stop solenoid is a bastard fer breaking up in the 200 pump, they are a bollocks to fit as well, you need a speshul spanner ;)
Aye a 24mm one for the solenoid, 10mm for the bracket holing it tae the engine and then whatever size it is for taking off the injector pipes (top and bottom) just to get the big spanner in!!!

aye, i get an old 24mm spanner, cut it in half and then ground the sides of the jaws down so they are well thin. it works a treat, ive used it loads o times changin solenoids fer different folks
Ah didn't have an old one kickin' about, so ah went and bought a new one and then bottled it cuttin' it down!!! Ah've got a mate who's on the lookout for an old one for me tho';) :D
