200tdi.......head gasket???
Just helping a friend here;
He's got a 90 with a 200tdi (it looks like a disco one to me, but what do I know); he did a 450 mile round trip, check fluids the next day (engine cold), undid the rad cap and there was pressure forcing water out of the top. oil ok, no mayonnaise.
He drove a few miles, and a huge cloud of white smoke appeared from the exhaust, loss of power and the "odd" noise (sorry, tried to get him to narrow that down a bit, couldn't help, his wife was driving).
His local garage says its a head gasket and it will cost £750, thats either very inflated or generous, personally if it is a head geasket, how can you quote without taking the head off? Or have I missed something?
Any ideas?
