reet the summer is here, weather is hot on whats already a tweeked 200tdi so normally runs a little warmer than it should.
comparing the viscous to the 300 mine seems i bit weak and can feel very little difference when rev'd so its time for a change.

whats the best mod for the fan to help with cooling and is there a specific antifreeze i should consider using for the summer?
 
its not the fact that am scared of the weather as the car hasnt been used in it yet but it will be shortly,

its the usage on long steep inclines, more fuel going into the cylinders, a fan thats due for renewel, its all adds up and its prevention thats the key.
 
but as standard it's engineered to be able to drag its self across the hottest parts of the world - so as long as everything is working as it should be a few inclines isnt going to hurt it
 
I am a convert to lecky fans.....

Quicker warm up.
possibly more accurate regulation.
yu can turn it off when going thru water.
yu can leave it on after engine shut-off, if required.

not bad fur £15 from a scrappy.:D
 
right, went and got the car out the unit and took it for a spin today, gauge reaches about an 8th of the gauge over what it normally sits at. gonna go the leccy route but what kind of power or load will it put on the leccys? surly it wont be as much as what the aircon uses? which i think i am going to rid anyway as i never use it.

it'll be a good few amps, anything between 5 to 20 amps but as long as yer battery and alt is in good condition tis nowt it wont be able to cope with
 
Just for your information, I've taken the viscous fans off both my Discos, they work all year round, towing up to 2.5 tons, living in France where temps of up to 40°c are well known and not even the slightest hint of overheating

Or a drop of fairy liquid into your coolant will do the same thing, it reduces the surface tension and lets the water "spread" better, soap is chemicaly a "wetter"

If you get a little greasy or oily patch in the coolant system then the water will not be in contact with the metal, so it will be a "hot spot", a little fairy will combat this, I have done it for my past 2/3 coolant changes in both LR's and its certainly had no negative effect.

So FAIRY liquid is kinder on hands and feet and engines and...

I now have visions of an under bonnet jacoozy :eek: :D

But seriously ............ i can see how that would work :)

Mines the same but I think it gets a bit hot off road a slow speeds so I fitted a kenlow, won't go in behind the radiator though although there looks like a lot of room, but fits easy in front behind the grille.

Viscoosy fans don't lock up when hot, they get a bit stiffer tho, if it's spinning good style when hot and they spin all the time then leave alone unless the bearings are away and it's going to destroy the radiator.

Yeah it works quite well, I have never had any mental bubbling, one drop in first and it will get carried to the bottom of the rad, then circulate and do its stuff.
