I recently bought my 1st RR a 2008 TDV8 with110k on the clock, a couple of months back. At first no probs. I loved it. However last Saturday while on my way to work and with no warning it was like I'd run out of fuel. No warning lights it just came to a halt.
While waiting for the AA I noticed it was dumping oil out of the air box so I was pretty sure it had lunched a turbo.
Moving forward. With the engine out the diagnosis was confirmed. Left hand, which I've now found out is the one that usually goes 1st.
I've since been informed by the company who are rebuilding the turbo that it is caused by the turbo "over speeding" and this is caused by an underlying problem else where with the engine. (split inter cooler, pipes, oil pick up,egr etc.) I've checked and cleaned all the pipes, egrs etc. (apart from the intercooler which is going away to be flushed and leak tested).
So I was just wondering if you guys had come across any common causes for this happening as I'd rather do it all while the engine's out.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

@matt1987 I believe works for or has worked for LR so would know the later vehicles better than most....

Here on LZ we are slowly catching up with the later models but you could try www.fullfatrr.co.uk as they are more up on the later post 2007 models currently.....in the mean time we'll try and catch up!
But you won't get the same humour or abuse on any other site.:D

Some people believe the egr valve sticking open causes the turbo to over speed and chew itself , other thing mentioned is when the oil is changed both sump plugs need removing as this can cause a sludge build up in the sump if they aren't 'which limits oil flow to the turbos ,another idea is the electronic actuator sticking , there's loads of other speculation but seems like luck of the draw more than anything as some people have don 150k no probs others have both turbos go at 80k !! Hope yours got sorted.
