I have owned an rr vogue tdv8 for 5 weeks.. yesterday it developed a problem. .on tick over she's sweet... but driving under load and acceleration it's howling black smoke out and I'm down on power a little,,,, I have poked at things,, both top hoses from the intercooler are 5 weeks old no splits.. I do have delphi software to run a fault diagnosis. .One fault was turbo pressure high,,, I will post the faults tomorrow when I run the obd again,,, but any known issues you may know off that I can hit with a hammer before the stealer gets a call on Monday would be much appreciated. .. cheers

Generally on these engines it is the top hoses, which normally split. Make sure the jubilee clips are really tight as these will tend to sweat if not tight enough. If I remember right there is two map sensor make sure they are clean and connected. If it has a extended warranty and from a main dealer take it back. We have a smoke machine that you plug into the induction system and if there is a leak the smoke comes out. It's a great bit of bit maybe the dealer near you will have one.

On the top of engine near the intercooler intake pipes there is two of them try swapping them over seen if the fault swaps to the other bank but that won't cause black smoke

And to update an old thread again, the rubbish plastic headers LR use can split, which will also cause black smoke
Squirt some soapy water on them to find the leaks! (The headers are not cheap and a lot of work to replace)
Anyone know what sort of plastic they are? Maybe they could be bonded with epoxy?
