Having researched the site I believe I am right in saying that my model only has ONE fuel pump which is under the rear o/s wheel arch.

Not as per the older models which had TWO....one in the tank and one in the engine bay.

Anyway I have removed the brilliantly designed holder  for the fuel pump, fuel filter and have replaced the filter after braying the old one out for two hours

I suspect my fuel pump is knackered so plan to replace it whilst everything is out.

NEW DIESEL FUEL PUMP LANDROVER FREELANDER 2.0 TD4 on eBay (end time 06-Aug-10 11:47:30 BST)

Now I have ordered the one from the above link for £50. I have spoke to the guy and he assures me it is a replacement for my car. The L/R part no. I require is WFX 0001 81 is listing in his add.

However this seems pretty cheap, even for an OEM part. Other companies have contacted me stating that they have ones which are cheap, are the right size, and would fit, but wouldn't last 5 minutes as the pressure is too low and I need a more expensive higher pressure unit.(Don't know if this is due to the fact there is now only one pump doing the work as opposed to two on the older models)

Anyhow, the one I am getting is rated as 4 bars pressure and wondered if this is really the one I need or is it no good. I do note the listing states it is compatible with several part Numbers which always gets me thinking

Don't want to fit a sub standard pump on only to have to do the job again in a few months time.

Any advice welcome.

Had the below reply from a seller on e-bay which seems to make sense....

The way these pumps work is hard to describe. Both the under bonnet and wheel arch pump can supply pressure up to 3bar. However it is down to the bearing design and flow direction in the way the pump works. The under bonnet pump can get away with a cheaper bearing design as it is designed as a suction pump. Where as the under wheel arch pump uses a higher quality more expensive bearing and is designed to create front pressure instead of suction to push constant fuel pressure all the way to the fuel rail at the front of the vehicle.

My next problem once I get the replacemennt pump is how to get the old one off. The retaining rings seem to be crimped on.....how do you get them off, is there a technique or is it an angle grinder job.....don't really want to damage the hoses.

They are quick release clips. just place a small flat screwdriver under the flange and a twist releases then and they are reusable.

Thanks for that.....my £50 pump arrived today, tempted to just give it a go but really wanted a genuine one. Having said that they are renound for breaking so how good are the genuine ones really. I have used Walbro before and they make good pumps, wonder if they do one for the Freelander.

Quick update.
I changed the pump....used a genuine Land Rover replacement though it was a used one, apparently came off a Freelander with just 23K on the clock.

Anyhow, the problem is sorted, for now..:)

No, sent the new e-bay one back......however the used LR one that I got was from e-bay too.

Been using it three weeks now and problem has not returned.:)
