Hi guys im reaching out dor help again here, as i was so amazingly helped with the 3 amigos. Turned out to be a solenoid.

So the engine has developed a tick/click sound and a short jerky loss of power almost feels as though you lift of the accelerator and then go back on the power quickly. Happens at just below and through to 2000rpm.

I have attached a link to a video on youtube that i took with the car in neutral and me revving the engine slowly up to 2000 and ypu can hear to clicking and the change in engine note. The clicking starts at 6 seconds on the video.

I have no clue as to what this is, can anyone point me in the right direction.

3 Amigos problems are usually clearly identifiable given the diagnostic codes.

I fear a lack of power at 2000 rpm may not be so easy to resolve. It is an issue that is brought up regularly on here - and I'm not sure anyone has identified a recurring cause.

I don't run a TD4, so may not be fully up on the status of 2K rpm issues. Until those lazy lot in the UK wake up, you might like to have a search for td4 2000 rpm on the forum. Here's 1 I found, but I'm sure I've seen longer debates on the issue...

Thanks for that, that has put me on the path, I was more worried that its a serious issue. I'll look into the injectors more as a possible cause/solution, but yeah will probs have to wait for the Uk to wake up.

Thanks again.

That's a hard metallic knock. I'd check the crank damper pulley as a starting point. They are known to de-laminate and knock against the block. Look for metallic silver dust in the area.

It's not unheard of for the crank to fail, which can make a similar noise.
Try turning the crank pulley back and forth, to see if it feels loose, like it's not connected to the rest of the engine.

Checked the crank pulley and all seems fine, bit of play in the belt when idling but tightens up fine when revved, also had a listen to the injectors on idle as well and all seem to be sounding fine, driven on the highway this morning and juddering was intermittent at highway speeds not constant. But when the judder did happen it was always in the rev region of 1800rpm-2400rpm and usually most consistent at or just above 2000rpm.

Did a vcu test just now seemed fine and also noticed when revved hard blueish white smoke out the exhaust and stinking.

Lost

So a follow up on this issue. One of the turbo intercooler hoses was loose and had a small amount of play in it. Once i tightened the jubilee clip the jerkyness at highways speeds stopped which is great, the jerkyness however and that clicking sound still remains only when cold once it is above the blue indicator (so not eveb fully warm the jerkyness and clicking disappears.

The engine and gear changes run smooth, and the only thing i can notice is that at low revs and in 1st and 2nd gear the engine does sound very heavy almost like a tractor.

Have checked the pulleys and surrounding areas for any metallic dust, have checked the vcu, I've listened to the injectors, and im lost as to what could be causing this noise and jerkyness, my thought was fuel pump but that along with the fuel filter was changed under 6 months ago, its not an OEM part so its a bit noisey but having looked throughout here it seems to be a known thing with non OEM fuel pumps and not an issue.

So the ticking/clicking sound happens as i said when the engine is cold and only in the first 2 gears and always above 2000rpm when the gearbox is about to or is changing up a gear. But once warm all gears, noises and jerkyness go.

Any ideas of avenues to follow will be appreciated, will do another search on here for similar threads in the mean time.
