Hi, the garage that I work for has just sold a 2005 discovery2 which after 2 weeks suddenly cut out when the owner was driving it.
I've been out to it today to plug in diagnostic but it's coming up with nothing.
When you turn the key you get all the ignition lights but when you crank all you get is a single click from the alarm unit that's tucked up high behind the radio.
Also I noticed that the heater blower and aircon don't seem to be on but I've checked all the fuses I can find.
So my question to all you landrover experts is

1, what the hell is wrong with
2, how the hell do I fix it:confused:

Cheers in advance

Paul

are you sure that click is not from the starter solenoid? ...cos that's common and there's no alarm unit behind the radio... remove the starter and use one of these on it Denso Starter Solenoid Contact Kit Landrover Defender Discovery TD5 -JAPAN | eBay

also if u used a generic OBDII diagnostic equipment not a dedicated L.R. tool it's not strange at all that it's coming up with nothing...albeit for that fault a nor would a dedicated one

It's definitely coming from a little black box that's tucked up above and to the right of the radio (removed) and sort of bolted to the left of the instrument cluster. Very difficult to get at. Has land rover CEL on it

as long as the red alarm LED is not on while you try to crank it's something with the starter circuit, if the rel led comes on then it's more complicated... also if you hear the pump when you turn ignition on it's not an immobiliser issue... i can't imagine what little black box you describe

I'll get the part number off it tomorrow. There's no red led on when I'm turning the key. Just a click from that box which has a working feed from the crank wire on the ignition switch

Ha! It might help I if in tell you that the car is actually a 2005 freelander! I got mixed up with the 2005 discovery that I had just fit a tracker too so maybe the mods could move to the freelander section

Sorry mate, but if you don't even know what car you are working on, how can you imagine that you will get help from a forum.

I definitely wouldn't want you working on any of my vehicles.

I know we all have to learn and we all started out with nothing - but come on guy, wake up and smell the coffee !!!

I knew I was working on a freelander but had also been working on a discovery 2 and had the dash out on both of them.
After I finished work I thought I'd ask on the forum but put it down as the discovery instead of the freelander!
I've also posted in the correct section
