2004 td4 freelander
Bought the car just over a week ago now and a couple of times when we have got home and turned the engine off ( only short trips ) the engine seems to be making a suckin sound ( cant think of another way to describe it really ) Its not the engine fan colling it down , .. Hubby thought it was the diesel cooling ? We have never had a diesel engine before so not sure about it .
No loss of power at any time when in use , goes up a decent hill with good power ..
Ive tried a string search on here but couldnt find anything that sounded like this ..
Got warranty on it so want to get the car right before it runs out ..
( and no the sucking noise isnt coming from me heheheh :p)
Cheers
Mindy :D
xx

Sounds like it could be the fuel burning heater, is it coming from under passenger side footwell (the fbh is there I believe)

Mine has always made a noise when i turn the ignition off if it is cold outside and I'm led to believe is quite normal (the fbh works when the outside temp is <5°c)

Its deff not a fan blowing ..

I didnt listen to where exactly it was coming from as it was piddling down :5bwilly_nilly:

But i will next time it happens .. It makes this sucking sound for about 15 secs as soon as the engine switches off ..

if its from the engine bay, just left of engine block, mine does it, think its from the fuel pump, or that area .maybe just returning fuel or summat. never been an issue for me at all. i have a 2003 td4 by the way.

TD4 - has it had the EGR blanked? (could have been done by previous owner)
Does the noise sound a bit like a strange duck?
Check out the long sticky thread about EGR mod - there's even a video with the duck noise on it. :)
If it's that - no need to worry and there's an easy fix to get rid of it.
That is the weird noise of the vacum leaking past the EGR solenoid valve when the ignition is turned off. :):)

Maybe the previous owner took the vacuum arrival tube off the egr without blocking it ??

Hi John
I looked right the way through that sticky thread but couldnt see anything about a video ( maybe my eyes dont work to good  )

I had a similar noise, and it was the vacuum pipe that had come off the egr valve as TD John said. If it isn't off check for leaks in the tube maybe.

Hahahah ! Yes !!!

Thats the noise ! Not as loud, as the bonnet is closed ,but i would say that is the noise :clap2:

Sooooo , is this a problem  , if it is how bad a PROBLEM ?
Does it need to be fixed or is it ok to leave it

Just a another thing IT'S PIDDLIN DOWN IN EASTLEIGH !!!!

Hi There,
Follow the fred.
There was a super mod that cures the DUCK and only uses a stanley knife and a shelf support. ;)
The shelf support was even on offer for free by the mod's inventor.
As to danger - absolutely none - you can listen to the DUCK for as long as you like without any damage to the FL. If you want to make the DUCK extinct read the FRED.
You will then qualify to be officially QUACKERS (not as bad as a session in Ming's basement torture chamber unless you like that sort of Fing??) :):)
Parently bad speellin is egspected on ere' to avoid the Tratter Boyz humous?? :pop2::tea:
