Probably best I start a members car/resto thread.

I bought my 04 defender 90 XSs TD5 last weekend knowing it had loads of issues but they just keep coming. It’s an ex write off and has a few dings, missing parts and faults. I’m sure it’ll make a good tidy car on a budget though. It came with remapped ecu and a 2” raised suspension and all new bushes fitted at a LR dealeship, only 87k miles it's just full of faults and been a bit neglected.
Door held shut with a bungie for example.

So far with forum help this week I’ve:-

Got an MOT- No advisories, YES! £50

Fixed the alarm-Door switch and lock button missing £7.

Fixed the electric heated front screen- Strip & clean switch and contacts.

Put handles on the seat recliner levers (bruised thigh!) £6.

Straightened the steering wheel up & check tracking £30.

TD5 engine cover missing- bought a used one £30

Outstanding issues:-

Intermittent power loss and black smoke- I have an inlet hose kit coming £45 hoping it’s a delamination issue blocking the intake…. We’ll see.

Radio and facia missing

Damaged osf wing and arch. New arch ordered £50

Damaged osr corner

Bent bumper. New ordered £99

Dash bulbs blown.

Heated seats worn and not working. 12v feed ok.

Door card all hanging off and inner frame cracked. Weld frames this w/e and refit with new clips.

Leaks- wet saggy headlining, assume the sunroof leaks.

Air con- pump and pipes missing :-(

What the flip hit the A bar? Lovely truck mate, bit shiny for my tastes though..

(yep, you're right, mines older and scruffier :D)

looks like a peach and an easy summer project, very nice.

Looking forward to this one! Going to get it back to former glory or do your own thing?
A bit of both really. I wanted it fairly stock really but I'm a sucker for a good roof rack & ladder (I do tend to use them) I'm working on the heated seats at the moment, new base covers and heater elements.

Then the hole in the dash to sort out!

A quick note on economy. A 300 mile mostly motorway trip 70-80 mph to get the roof rack came in at 24mpg not bad. My 50 mile commute at 40mph gets 33mpg. I’d like better. It’s had an Alive remap though.
Very sooty exhaust and often black smoke on acceleration so it might be overfueling for some reason....
