Hi all, I'm Steve from New Zealand... On to my 4th(?) Landy now - well, 3rd and 4th - two Disco IIs, one 2000 V8 fuel-sucking parts wagon and the other a silver 2002 facelift TD5 manual which I daily drive. Its a good little beast that I've pulled the 3rd row seats and trim from and built a sleeper deck with storage so we can go for a drive and not worry about having to get home again before bedtime :)

I've gotten quite good at swearing at this one - the top nut on the starter motor (if you've never done this you haven't lived!), one of the glow plug wires, the fuel pump, the air suspension bags, the air suspension compressor (re-ringed), top radiator hose, thermostat, roof leaks in both top front corners, rear door never staying aligned, SRS light intermittently coming on, audio system issues (replaced now), front driveshaft explosion, rear driveshaft clunks, and most recently the three amigos (first time I've had that in three D2's over 10 years)...

Its also got a Superchips chip in it... the power is good once it finally reaches around 1800RPM (takes forever), otherwise it has none at all... and the smoke! I'm guessing there are better chips out there...

Anyway... I love my Landy, although I often tell people its probably a Stockholm Syndrome thing...

Welcome to LoonyZone

Show us your Landies then, we likes piccies :)

Just added them to the original post... they look pretty much like any other D2, only the red one is pretty beat up - it was a cheapie because I needed some parts. My better half likes it because it makes the right noise but its so darned thirsty it drives me nuts - oh, and it randomly cuts out every now and then while you're driving it... which is mildly disturbing :)

Cheers, Steve

Aye Up Steve,
Welcome from the United Kingdom - Or perhaps more appropriate - the United Republic of Land Rovers! :)

Welcome to LZ Steve.

That's some impressive sun burn on the V8. When my old D1 V8 started randomly cutting out, it turned out to be a lose spade connector on a LV wire on the coil. Dunno if the D2 has a coil or whether it uses coil packs or what ever, the D1 was my last petrol car so not sure how ignition's done these days.

Thanks for the welcome everyone - yep old red is suffering from all kinds of ailments - sunburn is the least of her worries :) Shes become a body parts donor for the silver truck so is now parked up under the trees. I suspect it was a fuel pump / pump wiring issue but never got on top of it before it became a small storage shed for chainsaws / firewood gear.

I'll head over to another section of the forum shortly and ask about nanocoms and the newer alternatives - I need one of those... also the smoke mod (superchips)... I love the power and hate the implementation - there must be a better way.

Cheers, Steve

Everyone joins the 'club' with LZ.

Did you by any chance go to the 75th anniversary get togethers in Chch or Methven? If you did, I was the guy in the Freelander :)

No, I haven't been on any 4WD related trips or get-togethers in a long time... this summer I'd like to do something though, blow the dust off my old Staun tyre deflators, throw a pie in the glovebox, and go play somewhere... good to know I'm not the only one in Canterbury with a LR :D

Hi and welcome!

Lovely country, NZ. Lots of help and advice on here.

Thanks! and agreed, its a great place :)
