Hello A
had a bit of a situation with my recently purchased L3 22 I’ve just had a new alternator fitted as I bought it with a faulty one and seems to be charging beautifully want to use the car today after not using it for two weeks and the revs were jumping a bit when it got relatively up to temperature and then I got less than a kilometre away from my house of a small hill at the end of my road and the car read so jumping up and down again and then Cut out and I have no power just stopped in the middle of the road fortunately as just outside of a friends house and he came to assist we discover that there is a lot of smoke coming out in the compartment where the battery is located and we discovered there is a ECU of some description located behind the battery after further investigation we discovered it is the transfer box ECU what would cause it to smoke like that I’m aware of the car has recently had a oil filter change for the gearbox and that it is still relatively a bit sloppy changing gear could it be linked to the transfer box ECU having some sort of fault in it if so does anyone know where I can send it away to be reconditioned?

many thanks for any assistance

Hi,
You should really post your question in the relevant section - In your case the Range Rover section. This section isn't for technical queries, more for people stuck in mud or having broken down.

Oh, and pop by the 'Introduce yourself' bit as well...

Hello there apologies for that thank you for changing it

Apologies also failed to mention the fact that when we were looking under the Bonnet we noticed that one of the terminals I believe the negative one for the battery had popped off and it was absolutely redhot course once a diesel is completely out of pills switch the fuel solenoid off

ah some thing pulled a lot of current then or the terminal was lose causing arcing, may also be related to the alternator
problem, which case you could have lost a lot more than just the transfer ecu

Ah ok I will update this thread hopefully over the next 48 hours as it’s being recovered and taken to be plugged in
