Hi,

Picked up my first freelander 6 weeks ago, and i am really pleased with it, there are a few problems hopefully nothing major, and i am wondering if anyone has any ideas,,,,there seems to be a vibrating noise from the fuel filter, noticable on the first notch on the key before the engine fires up, it is still evident when the engine is running but only with the bonnet up.
The next one is that im topping up the collant every week (approx 1/4 litre) cant find any leaks but im wondering if this is a common problem.

Thanks
Phil.

You shouldn't have to top up the coolant every month let alone every week. Have a good look around all hoses, radiator etc to see if you can see any evidence of a small leak anywhere, if not get a reliable local garage to do a "sniff test" for head gasket problems & a pressure test for other possible leaks. Any competent garage will be able to do this for you without charging the earth. My money is on a small leak & not head gasket failure but you never know.
As for the buzzing noise, I can't help as my car has the later fuel filter with pump under the rear wheel arch. The pump on mine can be heard buzzing when the ignition is turned on if I listen out for it, but I'm not sure what's right for the underbonnet setup.

When i first got my Td4 it had the same noise coming from the engine bay with the ignition turned on, after two weeks of noticing it the rear fuel pump failed and had to be replaced (under warranty thankfully) and now the noise has gone, I think it may have been struggling to suck the fuel from the back without the help of the rear pump, but i am only guessing.

Your best bet would be to start your own thread, you'll probably get more replies. Also give as much info as you can & hopefully someone can help.
Good luck.

The vibrating noise you here is the fuel pump, (situated next to the fuel
filter) always happens on first turn of the key fu about 30 sec:)

That happens in my case, but whilst at work i asked a freelander td4 owner to do the same and there was no noise at all.........similar mileage same year.
