Hi all. Am new member to this forum. Looked at a 2002 Freelander 2.5 ES Auto yesterday (trade sale) and really liked the way it handled. Have never had a 4x4 before but always fancied one and like the look of Freelanders. Accept that as petrol engine this is not going to be very economical but is a really clean and tidy car (and I don't do many miles), 58000 miles, comes with six month AA warranty and is £3495. (Nice black model - looks good if nothing else) Will come with full MOT and requires replacement to rear driver side window mechanism, as it doesn't work, which the dealer will do.

Have previously owned a Volvo 940 estate which was a gas guzzler returnnig 20-25pmg. What could I expect with this? If it was a diesel would probably have not hesitated.

Any views would be appreciated please.

I've got a v6. I get 18mpg (local roads) to 28mpg (steady 60mph on the motorway). Doesn't seem to matter much if you hammer it either. they drink fuel full stop. I would be wanting receipts to prove the cam belts have been done at that age. Normally at 6 years or 72k miles. Not the easyest of jobs. Did mine myself.

To be honest, for an extra £1000 to £2000 you could pick up a diesel of the same year, which will be cheaper to run too. I only do 4k miles per year. I could save £400 easily per year if I had the diesel, on fuel alone.
