2000 P38 DSE - nasty noise on cold acceleration

Hi all, new user here with no mechanical nonce, wanting to know if its time for car to go! Y2k 2.5 DSE Auto 140k FDSH,(just done), in excellent nick and runs lovely apart from Very loud diesel rattle type noise when accelerating (seems to be when turbo cuts in) Problem only occurs when started from cold, not there on tickover and goes after about five minutes running time . Doesnt seem to be any loss of power, just incredibly noisy. Any thoughts?

Could be nothing, could be terminal, but 'incredibly noisy' doesn't sound good!

Can you isolate the noise by revving the engine with you head under the bonnet? The 6-cyl engine itself is smooth, all the belts and drives for the ancilliaries is where the noise comes from and usually relatively cheap to replace.

Hopefully it isn't your injector pump.
