I have lifted the 200 tdi engine out of my 93 Disco after separating it from the auto gearbox but the torque converter remains attached to the flex plate, starter ring which is bolted to the engine block. The heads of the four bolts holding it onto the starter ring are obscured by the starter ring itself which is floating as I have removed the twelve bolts round it's circumference. Apparently the Rangie torque converter stays in the gearbox when you pull the engine out and the Haynes manual apparently says that on Dicos there is an inspection plate under the gearbox bell housing which allows access to the four bolts holding the torque converter. Not on mine there isn't! I can just see the bolt heads but cannot reach them with a spanner. There must be a way to release the torque converter without resorting to grinding off the 4 lugs on the front of the flex plate which the bolts thread into. Any solutions please? Need to separate engine from Engine block today!

Didn't get that sorry. Disco was a victim of the tin worm and I only bought it for the engine which is going into my proper Land Rover... Problem now sorted, removed the starter motor which gave access to the bolt heads.
